Why there is no "All Things Considered" NPR podcast.

|
The post that's gotten the most traffic asked the question: Why is there no "All Things Considered" NPR podcast? So I asked.
Dear Kieran,

Thank you for contacting NPR's All Things Considered.

NPR does not currently offer Morning Edition or All Things Considered in a podcast format. This is the case for several reasons:

Among other considerations, many NPR stations incorporate local stories as they air these nationally produced newsmagazines; we are currently unable to integrate local and national content into a combined podcast, and thus cannot reflect the radio experience listeners enjoy -- and expect -- in their individual markets. Additionally, podcasting full-length daily programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered could be extremely expensive, and we are still working out the economic model to support podcasting.

However, selected content from these programs is available as part of other NPR podcasts that are organized by topic, such as "NPR Books" or "NPR Music." These podcasts can be found in the NPR Podcast directory at http://www.npr.org/podcasts/

In addition, a number of other full NPR programs are available via podcast including:

All Songs Considered
Car Talk
Day to Day
The Diane Rehm Show
Fresh Air
Latino USA
News & Notes
On Point
On The Media
Only A Game
Talk of the Nation
Tell Me More
Wait Wait...  Don't Tell Me!

You can also find these and other NPR and NPR station podcasts in the podcast directory at

I'm of the opinion that this podcast will be an eventuality, minus the local news. And while I'm not sure if bugging NPR for this podcast will make it come about any sooner, it couldn't hurt to ask.
